No, a family does not need a 2500 sq ft house! A very large percentage of the energy and electricity required to support a house goes into heating and air conditioning. In the past 3 decades, houses have gone from an average size of 1500 sq ft to 5000 sq ft behemoths in Texas suburbs. A lot of energy is wasted because of the desire for large homes.

I've felt similarly ever since DC spent hundreds of millions on Nationals Park a few years ago, and this stadium doesn't even appear to be intended to revitalize a downtrodden area (whether it's worth spending money to push the lower class to a different area is a separate, also long discussion). The problem is that this has become the status quo, so it seems that no city will ever get another pro sports team without subsidizing the stadium, but it does not seem like a responsible use of funds. Coupled with the near-impossibility to raise taxes in California with the super-majority requirement, and it seems especially irresponsible.

Of course, if the economic impact were significant enough, it may be worth it, but from the article, it looks like there's a lot of bread and no beef in that argument.

wow...sounds magical. best thinking for me occurs when i am sitting in a science/informational meeting or presentation. For some reason, whatever the person is presenting causes sooo many new and interesting questions and ideas to pop into my head. It is like I am bombarded with thoughts and ideas and that triggers my brain to synthesize new questions and ideas back.
